My experience of KEVI

7th February 2018Mrs K Shutler

Matthew D’s experience of KEVI:

KEVI provided me with a first-class platform to reach my potential – for that I can’t thank them enough.

At King Edward’s Sixth Form I studied Chemistry, Biology and Economics with the ambition of studying Dentistry at university. From day one I was met by staff that were not only passionate about teaching, but also thrived on the success of their students. Lessons in all subjects were extremely informative and regularly incorporated multiple learning techniques to keep students interested, motivated and keen to learn. Alongside regular assessments to monitor improvement, teachers and academic staff provided continuous 1:1 support for students – an offering some schools struggle to provide.

Something I believe fundamental to the success of students at KEVI is an understanding the examination process. KEVI students are educated on tactics – how to gain marks when answering questions. This was a huge benefit for me.

Upon applying to university, KEVI offered in depth guidance throughout. This included personal statement workshops, advice regarding universities/ the courses they provide and mock interviews. This, coupled with the fantastic sixth form facilities KEVI provides within it’s Advanced Study Centre, was invaluable and greatly supplemented my application and ability to achieve high grades.

I am currently on a gap year and applying to study Dentistry at university commencing September 2018. To date I have one unconditional offer and further upcoming interviews. I believe this to be an achievement that would not have been possible without the assistance of The King Edward VI School.

Applications for September 2018

7th February 2018Mrs K Shutler

We are delighted with the response to our initial application window, currently there are over 300 applications for a September start! From the 300+ applicants there have been relatively few clashes with subject choices.

Although the initial application window closed on 5 February, we are still able to accept applications via our Sixth Form Office. It is now the job of the timetable to make options and classes work. We feel very proud and fortunate to have such a large number of applicants and are committed to delivering attainment, progress and the exclusive experience our Sixth Form at King Edward’s students receive.

For us as a Sixth Form team, our attention now turns to Bridging Week. This is the Week Beginning 9 July where all applicants are invited to experience a week in the life of Sixth Form at King Edward’s. Meet tutors, teachers, peers and importantly the Sixth Form team. This week really is a chance to experience all of the benefits of being a Post 16 student within Sixth Form at The King Edward VI School.

UCSA Update

7th February 2018Mrs K Shutler

The Sixth Form team have done an unbelievable job processing all UCAS applications for Year 13. Read on to see the summary:

  • 163 applications received and sent to UCAS
  • Allied Health professionals – number of students offered interviews are higher than in previous years
  • 11 applications sent to Oxford/Cambridge, several received interviews and 3 have received offers
  • 5 applications for Medicine
  • 1 application for Dentistry
  • 2 applications for Veterinary
  • 4 students have already accepted an unconditional offer
  • 17 students have accepted their firm and insurance offers
  • UCAS are waiting for 62 students to make their decision on their offers
  • 79 students waiting for universities to respond to one or more of their choices

Did you know?

  • To actually be able to send all 163 applications to UCAS, 1,253 individual steps had to be carried out
  • For one application there are at least 8 members of staff involved, and often the UCAS Co-ordinator and Post 16 mentor will see the application multiple times
  • That within as little as 30 seconds, from the point of your application being sent to UCAS, your UCAS application can be sitting with the university admissions office that you have applied to
  • As a high achiever, you may be able to “upgrade”. If you get better grades than expected you may be eligible to enter UCAS Adjustment
