Independent learning is about managing your own learning. As a student in Sixth Form, you will study for 9 hours inside the classroom, which should then be matched outside of the classroom. For some of this time you will complete homework, whilst the rest is Independent Learning.

Homework is set and collected, marked, observed, checked and recorded.

Independent learning is everything you do outside of the classroom to solidify and develop your knowledge in the subject you are studying.

You must make the most of your non-contact periods when in school, as well as structuring your spare time at home, so that you are regularly reviewing and previewing your work.  In order to support you with this, each department has created an Independent Study Plan which will act as a guide of what you can be doing outside of your lessons each half-term.

Remember, these plans are only a starting point.  You should be completing a range of independent study tasks based around each of your subjects which may include reading, reviewing class notes, watching online tutorials and practicing exam questions.
